Are You Drinking Enough Water?
Whether your are trying to lose weight, be healthier or just feel better, drinking enough water could help. Our body is composed of about 60% of water. Some of the benefits of drinking enough water include improvements in: circulation, digestion, creation of saliva and temperature control.
But how would you know if you are drinking enough water?
In the past, the magic formula used to be- eight glasses of 8 ounces of water per day. Further studies indicate that this is no longer correct as there are some factors that must be considered such as: person’s weight and size, activity level, even the climate that you live in. In general, you should drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water per day or more. So it would look something like this… if your weight is 150 pounds, that would mean that you should be drinking a minimum of 75 ounces of water per day. This amount would increase if you are doing any type of exercise or live in hot climate.
Why is it important to drink water?
Drinking enough water can help you control the calorie intake, energize your muscles; especially when you are starting out and feeling sore all over the places, help your skin look better, improve metabolism and digestion as well as help with kidney performance just to name a few. But let’s be clear now, we are talking about drinking water not just fluids. Substituting water for sugary drinks, sodas, alcohol is not recommended and should not be counted towards the total amount of water that you should be drinking every day.
